How can I fix a wobbling ceiling fan without a balancing kit?

You can often fix a wobbling ceiling fan without a kit by tightening loose hardware and correcting blade alignment. Turn off power first. If wobble remains after these checks, a licensed electrician can inspect the mounting and balance the fan.

Quick checks:

  • Turn off breaker. Tighten all blade and bracket screws.
  • Clean blades. Replace any bent or warped blades.
  • Tighten downrod pin/set-screw and the ceiling bracket/canopy.
  • Measure blade tips to ceiling. Swap blades to equalize heights.
  • Ensure wiring isn’t rubbing a blade or housing.
