Can I install a ceiling light myself without existing wiring?

Yes, but only if a properly mounted ceiling box and wiring already exist. If there’s no existing wiring, you’ll need a new cable run, a listed ceiling box, and a switch or power source. That work is more complex and is best handled by a licensed electrician. Unsupported boxes or improper splices are a fire hazard. We install new lighting circuits, boxes, dimmers, LEDs, and smart lighting in Sterling, Fort Morgan, and Brush.

Quick checks:

  • Shut off power and test with a non-contact tester.
  • Look for an existing switch or capped wires.
  • Verify the ceiling box is fan/light rated.
